A Dream A Lot Like Mine

From time to time I wonder if she ever has a Dream A Lot Like Mine
Where wrong we did back then is back again
An' hittin' right between the eyes
Like the life that we denied because it somehow seemed not worth the sacrifice
Of things we thought we needed - now long vanished - and still I pay the price
And, from time to time, I wonder if she ever has A Dream A Lot Like Mine

Each day I see the faces as I go about my normal life's routine
Sisters, brothers, friends and lovers -
Still lookin' for a face as yet unseen
Someone's missing from the picture, but always in my heart and on my mind
And. if time could make it better,,then I guess that would have happened by and by
And, from time to time, I wonder if she ever has A Dream A Lot Like Mine

I don't love her, I don't hate her - for her, I don't feel very much at all
But blood that we both shared and spilled
Keeps turning up like writing on the wall
I could have raised my voice to say this choice to kill our child would mean "Goodbye"
But, young fool that I was, I stayed and worked at things that weren't worth a try
And, when it finally ended, I was fool enough to feel a need to cry

Many years have passed since we last spoke or even saw each other's face
I bear her no hard feelings and hope her life has found a peaceful place
But, let's just say it happens that we chance to meet and speak for one last time
I wonder if I'd ask her if she ever has A Dream A Lot Like Mine
Because, from time to time, I wonder
if she ever has A Dream A Lot Like Mine
